Re: tower of hanoi game

@ron77 do you think that you are truely "finished" with this? (rethorical question) It should be obvious that I think that you're "not yet finished" by far. For starters a remark from 'SARG' to 'cavelamb' in another thread : I guess that you don't completly understand what you ar...

Re: FreeBASIC 1.08 Development

Recommendation for NEW GCC-backend for WIN 32/64 'standalone' builds. After having run a sizeable amount of testing with GCC 8.4 WinLib (1.07.3 release), without any error and, just a warning on BASE1 static sized string-array, including: 32/64-bit DLL (Win) I'd propose: GCC 8.4 WinLib as NEW backe...

Well, that sounds to me like a BASIC-interpreter and not a BASIC-compiler ...
Maybe something like SmallBASIC? (on SourceForge)

Re: FreeBASIC 1.07 Release Discussion

Same here ... GCC 8.4 WinLib.
Seems to be specific to String-Array (static sized).
Not observed with dynamic Array ... (ReDim, instead of Dim).

Also no problems so far with numeric array's.
(this may however, be related to the fact, that I'm typically using BASE0 arrays)

Re: Problem with 64 bit gcc 8.4 by dodicat (split from 25215)

Tested coderJeff's code:

Code: Select all

dim as string x(1 to 4)
x(1) = chr(5,5)
Sleep
with FB 1.07.3 32/64 with GCC 8.4 WinLib build, result: OK (aka: no problem)

Re: Valulng, Vallng, Valuint, Valint hex notation

There is another thing that I'd like to bring to attention: the 'more recent' conversion functions of FB are (not as misleading as the val... stuff): unsigned: CUByte() CUShort() CULng() CULngInt("1234567890") and all the others Cxxxx types (have a look in t...

Re: Valulng, Vallng, Valuint, Valint hex notation

Does it make sense for a string such as "&H1234" to be input from a file? Why is it that some people make "simple things" unnecessarily complex? Let's face it all those data-type conversions (especially to/from file) are not really needed. Store decimal values to file and th...

Re: Program hangs on MultiKey()?

Remark: [Ctrl] + [c] can't be used in console mode (quit's console & program).

My code uses SC_ESC + SC_F4 for the Sub ... [Alt] + [F4] to quit main-loop.

Re: Program hangs on MultiKey()?

Hmm... curious, why would a WinFBE update matter? GCC 5.2 downgrade, perhaps? Earlier releases used GCC 8.n versions (blame deltarho[...] if you must blame someone). Try below simplified test-code ... seems OK to me: #Include "fbgfx.bi" Using FB Sub Wait_For_ESC_or_CtrlC__Then_Return() Do...

Re: Will this array subscript warning bite me later?

Best bet is: get the latest version of WinFBE (GCC 5.2) release ...
Later GCC versions are not yet 'officially released' .

Re: Program hangs on MultiKey()?

Seems to me, that you're not looking at the correct place ... it doesn't hang, it quits! The real problem is: you are trying to Open (for input) a non-existing file which throws a 'runtime error'. Remedy: check first if the file exists, before calling Open "filename" for Input As #f #Inclu...

Re: FreeBASIC 1.07 Release Discussion

Just interested in: why not calling it 1.07.4, in order to avoid ambiguities?
Reason:
we currently have 1.07.3 on WIN64 already.
