Re: help using fbsound-1.1 for playing multiple wav files

Have to add this, I simply copied my version from examples provided by D.J.Peters with the lib. Why not doing the same in order to avoid any issues?

Re: How would you find the shortest distance in a set of points?

- avoid the square roots, they are very slow - check to what extent you can use the simple sum dx+dy as a proxy, e.g. to identify the best 10 matches - with these 10 matches, use the exact method I see, first try another distance formula than the pythagorean stuff if I follow you well. Of course if...

Re: help using fbsound-1.1 for playing multiple wav files

I used that times ago and it worked: #include "inc/fbsound_dynamic.bi" function FbSound_Init() as boolean dim as string data_path data_path = exepath() & "/dta/" dim as boolean ok ' ok=fbs_Init() if ok=false then ? "error: fbs_Init() !" ? FBS_Get_PlugError() beep sl...

How would you find the shortest distance in a set of points?

Hello, so as said in the tittle, how would you find the shortest distance in a set of points, in a fast way. So far here is my try: type POINT2D as single x as single y end type dim as POINT2D xy(1 to 1000) 'set up 1000 points randomize TIMER() for index as integer = lBound(XY) to uBound(XY) xy(inde...

Re: Squares

The map of the rearrangement has to be as small as possible.. Bubble sorting a random string is a no-brainer , but the map of the process is too large.... I have to find a way to rearrange the values , so with the map added , it will still compress.. Hi Albert, interesting thought. Anyway my feelin...

Re: program crashes after many ide's in development :(

Hi ron77, Yes when you reach the critical mass, the code starts being hard to manage, and will require more than just coding locally right things. I mean you'll have to think about more structural things at a more global scale. The choice of an IDE can sometimes definitely matter. One of the thing t...

Re: Parse DIR listing for folder name and size

I am having a hell of a time trying to parse a directory listing to get just the folder name, and folder size. Hello, as far as I remember this is not that trivial to get those kind of metrics (directory tend to have a lot of subdirectories in there). Even powershell which is the job can be slow on...

Nice. You need to implement Exit() or something like that to be complete :)

Re: Is FreeBasic A Decent Alternative To VisualBasic 6?

Hello all. I used Visual Basic 6.0 for a few years until about 2016. Now I need a decent alternative that isn't dying (*cough* VB.Net). Is FreeBasic a good choice, or should I use a different language? Hi BadLarry, I would say yes you can use Freebasic as an alternative where you will be abe to use...

Re: Duplicates

It also depends on your speed requirements and magnitude of precision you expect. I did a test if a beer-bottle label was well placed (no folds) and didn't have errors (parts were printed on), and for that just summing the differences of the channel |r-r2|+|g-g2| + |b-b2| was already quite ok. But ...

Re: Duplicates

I think this kind of files is the reason why people use database systems. No. Database systems are very bad for operations that touch all data, IOW queries must have at least one major condition indexed, and the number of queries must be much larger than the original insertion/preparation/indexing ...

Re: Squares

I'm absolutely not able to do compression. I can change the representation of a number throught its base, that's all. However, if I wanted to get started in the domain, I would probably try to implement simple and well known already existing algorithm. For instance, here is a website that I find ver...
