Re: Static arrays, program stack, and possible ambiguity in the manual

grausvic wrote: So a reminder for beginners: DIM AS DOUBLE X,Y,D applies to all of them, DIM X,Y,D AS DOUBLE just applies DOUBLE to D.

Referring to the second declaration ('DIM X, Y, D AS DOUBLE'), the default types (for X and Y) are only valid in -lang deprecated or fblite or qb.

Re: Static arrays, program stack, and possible ambiguity in the manual

Updates (of 'Dim' documentation page) done:
KeyPgDim → fxm [Reformatted second example, between code and comment places]
KeyPgDim → fxm [Clarified the meaning of 'Static array' when used to say 'of fixed length', not to be confused with 'Static storage' for data.]

Re: Wiki improvements

Maybe the Wiki is improved with the suffix change, but fb hasn't. Large chunks of forum code no longer compile. Why was that particular change made anyway? This is one of the last fixes of dkl in the rev 1.06.0: [fixed] (rev 1.06.0) - 832 : Fix bug allowing QB style suffixes on all keywords, regard...

Re: @fxm, detecting fixed size arrays vs. dynamic arrays

The advantage of my solution is that this new information is always in the same place relative to the descriptor pointer (at "address - 1"). I propose the same principle than for the followings in presence of a data block of variable length: - NEW[]: with the number of elements to destroy ...

Re: Static arrays, program stack, and possible ambiguity in the manual

We are often talking about static arrays as opposed to dynamic arrays, but in this precise case "static" means "fixed-size" et "dynamic" means "variable-size" (its becomes from the old QB metacommands: "'$Static" and "'$Dynamic", or "O...

Re: Wiki improvements

Do you mind having a look at: #455 Number lexing allows much bad input #491 precision denotation suffix char returns syntax error I think parts of those bug reports could be resolved by verifying or adding to documentation. Only parts not fixed by documentation would be a fbc compiler change (or de...

Re: Wiki improvements

Maybe a cookie (var/fix length array flag) could be stored just before the descriptor structure: - a "hidden" Integer at address = @Cptr(Integer Ptr, @descriptor)[-1] (similar to the usage of a cookie (nb. of elements) stored by 'New UDT[]' (at "address - 1 Integer") when the UDT...

What documentation version do you use?
This was corrected on 2018-09-03.
(FB-manual-1.06.0 is OK, and obviously the wiki too)

Re: Prefilled INPUT - editing variables rather than retyping the whole thing

Difference already seen between gas and gcc:
- For gas, a literal string is put in the .DATA section.
- For gcc, a literal string is put in the .RDATA section (read only).

So gas allows to modified a literal string while gcc returns a run-time error ("segmentation violation" signal).

Re: Comparison between Properties & Functions overloading behaviour

The number of dimensions is limited to 8 for an array.
But infinite number of overload functions because infinite number of datatype (the pre-defined types, plus all possible UDTs) ?
