Re: [offtopic] FreePascal

@dodicat
here's a 7z archive of fpc 3.04
please check for viruses, I think my PC is clean but you can never be too careful.
almost forgot, it's 64-bit version
let me know when you have downloaded the file so I can remove the link.

Re: [offtopic] FreePascal

@dodicat the FreePascal time seems a bit high, I borrowed a bit code from jj2007 to make the program time itself { The Computer Language Benchmarks Game https://salsa.debian.org/benchmarksgame-team/benchmarksgame/ contributed by Ian Osgood, modified by Florian Klaempfl modified by Ales Katona modifi...

Re: [offtopic] FreePascal

@dodicat
I have been very lazy lately, so I used the one I had translated from C some time ago https://benchmarksgame-team.pages.debia ... gcc-1.html
I think you should use Somenumber*somenumber for sqr

@jj2007
have tried your FreePascal test with -O3 ?

Re: [offtopic] FreePascal

compiling this https://benchmarksgame-team.pages.debia ... cal-1.html with fpc -O3 nbody.pas and executing nbody.exe 50000000 FreePascal's time is about the same as that of FreeBasic with -O2

Re: gcc 5.2 vs gcc 8.1

I prefer to have 32 and 64-bit versions separate and not blended together which is the reason of your problems.

does it happen when you made changes to the source or when you only change compiler settings?

Re: gcc 5.2 vs gcc 8.1

@deltarho[1859] have you considered using -Ofast instead of -O3 ? I find that -Ofast is more stable than -O3 if you want small size then use -Os which is stable as well. I find that -O2 is close to optimum and usually there are no problems, however -Ofast or -Os work when -O2 fails PS please provide...

Re: gcc 5.2 vs gcc 8.1

@srvaldez Hi. If I remember correctly you are using gcc 7.3. Have you had any issues compiling 64-bit with -O3? I am thinking that we could have a 'dodgy' 64-bit build. I have msys2 with gcc 7.3 and FB in the toolchain but I almost always use the standalone version with gcc 5.2, sometimes I use the...

Re: Reading a text file into a string array

What I don't understand, though - and the docs don't talk about it - is why ReDim on top works ... while a Dim recstr(0) As String on top makes it crash. Mysteries of FreeBasic... I believe that Dim uses the stack while reDim uses the heap, hence it logical that a string that was allocated on the s...

hello jj2007
I can't get your algorithm to work, however, perhaps reading the entire file at once into a string buffer might be of interest to you viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26410

Re: Getting past the 15 decimal place limit of a double in FreeBASIC?

When I run this i get: 3.141592653589734 This isn't exactly enough digits when playing with Pi. Is there anyway to bypass this limitation and increase the digit amount? Sorry if this is in the wrong area I'm new to this forum please redirect me to the correct area if so. Also if this already has an...
