Re: Operator Cast missing from the index

Ok! A big thank fxm. I understand now that Dim As char charVar = "AAA" and any variations of this, implies a call to the Constructor. I have to tell you that coming from VB.net world, I'm used to associate the call to Constructor with New() . However for argument declaration in procedures,...

Re: Squares

Yeah, something strange about your results, what does this output? It returns : Entering For Scope 1244888 Entering IF1 Scope 2 slots needed, 1stvar assigned before 2ndvar firstVar slot :1244852 secondVar slot :1244848 Exiting IF1 Scope 1244888 Entering IF2 Scope 2 slots needed, 2ndvar assigned bef...

Re: Operator Cast missing from the index

What did you expected? I expected Fun("AAA") to work. In the line 'This._Char = S', only the first character is copied because _Char is defined 'As String*1'. Yes, the fixed-length strings (string * N, zstring * N, wstring * N) cannot be defined as data-types for passed parameters to proc...

Re: Squares

There is something strange about the results you've posted though, it looks like the 2nd IF results is only assigning 8 bytes for your big datatype, I don't have that discrepancy when I run it. Not 12? As it is 3 same variables of same type bundled, so 3 x 4 matches well. Anyway thanks for the demo...

Re: Operator Cast missing from the index

Nice job ! This last work is great. It illustrates many of the most difficult points one may encounter. Not only beginner, but people used to more usual Basic. I appreciate in particular the added value brought as a welcome side effect by the clean treatment you make of : ⋅  Left operator ...

Re: Operator Cast missing from the index

Hi fxm, nice work. Quite exhaustive. Thank you also for having clarified the introductory paragraph. That's great amount of material to allow a consequent documentation enrichment. However, following exactly your example I've tried to write the conversion between B to A, and also between A to B (jus...

Subroutine Parenthesis and param syntax question

Hello. I have 2 common subjects it would be nice to get clarified about subroutines, including Sub or Functions. 1/ About parenthesis : ⋅  1a/ In one hand I've seen so far that a language function like Screen could'nt be written with its parenthesis. Screen 8, 32 will match, whereas Screen...

Re: Squares

Just scrolling the code, I'm propelled into the Matrix ... Sorry by advance if I did wrong, but here is a version for small screen for I've myself one and was disturbed by the display you've set. So I've began also to play with the hex value. Sorry about that also, but that's fun. Redim Shared As Ui...

Re: Operator Cast missing from the index

Good idea overall. Allow me the modifications below, as a matter of example of what would sound for me more friendly. (Forgive the possible misinterpretations!) It would be kind if you could also answer by an example or a sentence to the questions. I've put all that in your text. Implicit conversion...

Re: Squares

@fxm, I think I begin to get it now. I've made this tiny demo code that is showing that it is true that the addresses tend to be always the same, at scope level, for a given order of instruction. Or rather the adresses start at same addresse. But the order in wich the assignations come may change th...

Re: Squares

... I wouldn't say I've well understood all that you said. It is rather complicated. However, I 've edited and added a static variable as suggested for the scope issue. Not sure what I should do for the rest, since you've expressed that in a quite theoritical tone. I'm still on the wine so no coffe...

Re: Dim block syntax

It's cleaner to encapsulate them in a Type and define one global var/object or maybe a local var/object which you can initialise with a constrcutor and pass as parameter to your mainprocessingfunction. Such code tend to be more reusable. Nice tip. Thanks. Types should go to .bi headers while Dims g...

Re: Dim block syntax

Hello Drago (MaLefoy?) ;-) For me Cut/Paste is a big affair for types and variables names, lesser for "Dim As" statement itself. This is the first remark. The other remark follows immediatly from my experience. When you want to perform Cut for example or Copy, you have to grasp the text fi...

Dim/Data block syntax

Hi, As far as I've been able to see, there are 2 ways to declare a variable ( leave aside Redim , or additionnal keywords like Shared , or variable/type versus type/variable order ) . Those are : Dim As SomeType someVariable , or As SomeType someVariable , only for fields sitting inside UserDefined ...
