Re: The new Old Man

I'm sorry to spam this forum, but i'm happy that i found this forum and this programming language. When I was a little bit younger(approximately 15 years) I programmed a lot of in the good old C64 basic, and I loved it...:) So when I get a copy of this FreeBasic thing the old memories flash back in...

In FreeBASIC/examples/Windows/variants, you will find a file called 'variant.bi'. Before you can use this, you have to go into "libvariant/", and 'make' the library. If you don't have the utilities to do that, I posted the library file here: http://cha0s.freebasic.net/fbc/libvariant.a Put that in F...

It might be easier to convert the ANSI C parser engine rather than the VB version. The VB version is over 3000 lines of code, the C version is (about) 1200 lines of code. Factor two, thank you! But there is more to it then number of lines of code. The VB version has an object oriented design and pr...

I see there are some people who know something about Visual Basic. So.... if you know the answer to this question, please let me know. In the VB source I came across the keyword 'Variant' as in Dim some_var As Variant What would be a reasonable FB - translation for the type Variant? And I have come ...

It really depends. In some ways FB is very close to the MS BASIC variant, and in other ways it is divergent. It pretty much depends on what the code does... I'm not a VB expert or I'd offer to appraise that compiler and tell you what I thought about it. Without seeing the actual code it's gonna be ...

Is there a compiler-compiler that generates human-readable/easy to debug code (besides ANTLR)? Cool, it would be nice to have one that generated FB sources. Actually it works something like this. A program called the 'gold parser builder' generates tables from a user supplied grammar. The gold pars...

FreeBASIC and Visual Basic 6

The other day I was looking at a compiler compiler that came with a Visual Basic 6 engine. There are not that many compiler compilers that are able to produce BASIC code (most of those compiler compilers produce code in C, C++ or Java) so I was quite happy to find something that could help in buildi...

Then take a look at /inc/win/dshow.bi an...

I found this software (visg) at softpedia.com softpedia.com guarantees that visg is spyware/adware/virus - free. At softpedia.com visg is listed as freeware and that is not quite the same as gpl. Visg looks nice, I am sure it is a good IDE but why should I help someone develop software only to find ...
