### Re: Physics question

You have piqued my interest in the problem so I am working on it some more. Maybe I will figure it out, maybe not. Will perhaps give it another look tomorrow. I see the problem as the same physics (but without water friction) of a boat with an outboard motor. The left/right arrow keys increase rotat...

### Re: Physics question

The force is not through the centre of mass even if it is in "the y direction". Try pushing a cup with your finger. If it is through the centre of mass it will go in whatever direction you push. If however you use your finger to push at the left or right of the centre of mass (nothing to d...

### Re: Physics question

No math expert to explain it? A verbal description of what I image would happen is that every time the single engine was fired the resultant force would be divided into two amounts with one going to increasing the velocity of the rocket in the opposite direction to the rocket engine firing and the o...

### Re: "A Love Letter To FreeBASIC" Game Dev Competition (Feb 2019 –Mar 2019) - Round 2

... the main motivator for the game was/is the competition element for me. Whereas I belong to the small minority who aren't in the least bit competitive. I just do my best and I am happy with that. Has anyone tried my game so far? Just tried it. Not sure how to play it? Can you rotate the blocks? ...

Well I course I didn't mean forever, just I guess how much time they think they need?
So I guess if they can't get it done in time just call it a good try and forget about it?
The first round worked out ok so the competition itself was a success.

May as well give them all the time they need as nothing else is happening in the FreeBasic Game programming world.

### Re: how to rotate around an arbitrary axis

@dodicat, Another demo to add to the dodicat folder :) Your code is of course beyond me to read. It is easy to translate a fully understood algorithm to code but not so easy for me to work out the algorithm from its coding particularly the higher level compact coding you use. When I observed in my v...

### Re: how to rotate around an arbitrary axis

Still haven't been able to find a function to rotate a point around any arbitrary axis to fly the cube around like a paper plane but I am still looking. It appears it must use quaternions to avoid gimble lock. A hobby programmer hopes there might be already written functions that do common tasks, su...

### Re: Rotating a single axis only

@badidea, Yes I remember the mention of a "gimbal lock" and "quaternion". There is also treating a point as a vector ? https://medium.com/@behreajj/3d-rotations-in-processing-vectors-matrices-quaternions-10e2fed5f0a3 My problem is understanding (visualizing) the concepts and tran...

### how to rotate around an arbitrary axis

The problem is what equations could be used so the keys only allow rotation around one axis. The up/down cursor keys always seem to have complete control over rotation around the green axis however the other keys do not unless the cube is in its starting position (hit space key to reset to starting ...

### Re: Rotating Cube with textures build 2019-02-22

Look here for some information about the math: http://petercollingridge.appspot.com/3D-tutorial/rotating-objects I have read those kinds of basic explanations and have posted some of my efforts to the forum including the rotating textured cube demo. None of it is like the condensed maths Dodicat us...

### Re: Rotating Cube with textures build 2019-02-22

Both very nice rotating cube demos. The compression of images into the source code is interesting. UEZ do you have code to make the data statements from images? I would see the compression and decompression of images as a separate Tips and Tricks example. UEZ's cube rotates toward the mouse. Dodi's ...

@gothon, Following your latest directions the build worked. It was missing ZLIB1.dll and MSCCR100.dll, which I downloaded into the same folder, for the FBPoL.exe to run. The little box guy moves too fast when I touch the arrow keys and still requires boundary and obstacle checks? Interesting that yo...
