There are defines you can use.

Code: Select all

#ifdef __FB_LINUX__
    PRINT "Hello, Linux!"
#elseif defined(__FB_DOS__)
    PRINT "Hello, DOS!"
#elseif defined(__FB_WIN32__)
    PRINT "Hello, Windows!"
#endif

What would even better is if it were optional, so you could omit the ")-(" stuff and just put the right number of parameters if you want to.

Maybe the apparent data throughput is being inflated by your on-CPU memory cache? At 640x480x32, 48 rows is 640 x 48 x 4 = 122880 bytes, or exactly 120 kilobytes. That's small enough to fit inside the L2 cache of an Athlon XP (256kb). Could this also explain why it doesn't perform as well with large...

Actually you don't have to, it runs in wine.

I guess so. I don't know how to verify it.

In programs made up of multiple source files, each bas file is called a module. That's all it is - it's exactly like a C/C++ program with multiple cpp files. fbc will compile and link them all together, all at once for you: fbc first_module.bas second_module.bas third_module.bas and_so_on_etc.bas Fo...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I have FB 0.14, which doesn't support "string & string" (that's a VB thing, right? - added in 0.15?), so I just changed those to "string + string".

lurah: It's probably the same thing for you.

I tried running it with Wine 0.9 on Linux, and I saw the loading progressbar! It finished loading, and then crashed :(. Most likely Wine's fault.

I'm pretty sure .15b doesn't need to be installed anywhere in paticular, because it uses paths relative the the executable path.

Just put it anywhere, then create a symlink in /usr/bin to fbc

Or you could use Allegro or SDL. There are also ways to get around the legacy QB compatibility that slows down FB's built in graphics library.

You need to calculate the position as a function of time. That way, even if the FPS fluctuates, it'll still move smoothly. Setting the new position based on the old position won't work, it'll always be affected by FPS no matter how you tweak it.
