I was using pset as the blitting method instead of alpha...
Problem solved.

That's why it's a good idea to post a bit of code. Someone probably would have caught that and saved you a lot of time. :)

Edit: I suppose maybe this way you will remember it better. Solving things by yourself is good.

I may have to go over to bitmaps. RIP PNG. Thanks again all of you for your help

I've just re-visited FBImage, by D.J. Peters (aka: Joshi) which now, (not from the start!),
also allows to *save* PNG's (load was, from the start, incl.).

This might just be, what you're looking for ... (it's small too).

Secondly (no more dll/so):
the new version is compiled as *static* lib, so no more messing with DLL's/SO's needed.
