Using a free Google account, with 2 Gbyte storage facility, I can share files
by using an option 'share with anybody with url' which then provides a url to copy
and paste publicly. It's a fast & free service. The files are read-only by anyone who
has the url, and I have control as to the file's availability. Upgrading programs is a
matter of re-uploading and re-publishing a new url
Does anyone know of a down-side to this?
File & program sharing

Re: File & program sharing
With Google, or probably any major search/email/cloud drive provider, their offerings will probably be better than standard file sharing sites. No dodgy adverts, waiting times, throttled download speeds, no need to use some special download software, and I'd say the link is less likely to stop working.
There are also other cloud storage offerings such as Dropbox. Or if you're just sharing code and might appreciate collaborative editing, Github may be ideal, and particularly Gist for large-ish single file projects.

I can extend that list with http://one.ubuntu.com/ - 5gb and http://disk.yandex.com/ - 10gb.
The last one provide connection of remoted storage as local disk drive. And not just storage. Like Google, Yandex have bunch of different services.
