The new look forum
The new look forum
Hello:
The new forum look is going to take some time to get used to.
1. It looks like code snippets are going to be one size scrollable window. Practical in the case were long code has been posted. You will now have to cut and paste into an editor to get a larger view.
2. Code snippets are not syntactically colored. Were they previously? I think so.
3. The ability to thank a poster doesn't seem to exist any longer.
4. There is an awful lot of grey shades color (or washed out blue).
5. There has been a forum update hasn't there? I didn't do this myself somehow did I?

Re: The new look forum
I think this update is all part of the fixing of security problems that were identified with the web site. If you are patient I think you'll find the little glitches will get fixed and almost all the functionality we had before will return (if it doesn't remove functionality, it's not an upgrade!). There's just one guy looking after all this and I'm sure he's working as fast as he can.
It's funny the things we can't remember from just a day or two ago. I can't remember what was powering the forum before. Not sure if this was just an upgrade to a major new version of the same software (phpBB), or if this is a migration to phpBB from another system like vBulletin.

Re: The new look forum
There seems to be an issue with the FreeBASIC Horse Logo:
- it appears (a very short Time) and is then overwritten with the Standard "phpBB Logo"
I've encountered similar Issues with Design-Changes in various CMS-Systems
Sometimes so called "Sub-Templates", another CSS-File (further down the Tree)
needs to be changed also, to make Changes "Permanent"
Re: The new look forum
Not this problem on my latop (Windows 7 64-bit + firefox 31.2).
(it's my professional PC, and I am not mastering versions)

Re: The new look forum
Yes, that's all grey too much here right now. I hope this will be tweaked to get things more readable (code in particular). For the thanks, this was a funny feature!sancho2 wrote: The new forum look is going to take some time to get used to.

On my win 7/64 this menu barMrSwiss wrote:There seems to be an issue with the FreeBASIC Horse Logo:

when scrolling down, moves up and parks under the bookmarks bar (or whtatever its called) in firefox.
So as you scroll down you always have access to it. Like a fixed row in Excel.
There is a noticeable snap when scrolling down as the logo is moved up and off screen.
Also much thanks to the forum keeper. I enjoy it here.
Re: The new look forum
- Perhaps one can add a direct command to "Bookmark topic" ("Remove bookmarks") next to "Subscribe topic" ("Unsubscribe topic") on the second bar, instead of being forced to open the menu "Topic tools".
- Remark on the date/time tag of the current page:
I prefer a alphanumeric display rather than pointing on an icon!

I fully agree with that ...fxm wrote:- Remark on the date/time tag of the current page: I prefer a alphanumeric display rather than pointing on an icon!
BTW: The Problems with "FreeBASIC Logo" in Firefox still exists (don't know about other Browsers!).

This is how it looks here. There is a lot of whitespace.
