Hi, newbie here...
I installed 64 bit fbc and Free Basic IDE 0.4.6.
I opened Hello.bas from C:\Program Files\FreeBASIC-1.05.0-win64\examples
I then tried to compile..I got Compilation Failed!
It says error number 26, File Access Error
Any help would be very appreciated
Thx

newbie compilation Failed question
Re: newbie compilation Failed question
Hi, try copying the examples to a different location. "Program Files" might be write protected.
Re: newbie compilation Failed question
I just wanted to share a fix to a similar problem I had after getting a new Win10 computer.
I usually keep a folder "C:\Dev" for my FB stuff, but after copying my dev folder from a older computer to my new, I only got " 26 File access error" when trying to compile my projects(also FBedit didn't save the settings I changed). This seems to only happen on "C:\" (even though I'm logged in as a Admin) so if your computer has another partition then you can use that one. I didn't have another partition with extra space so I right clicked the "C:\Dev" folder –>Properties–>Security and gave all users full access to this folder. Now everything works as expected.

Re: newbie compilation Failed question
"Program Files" & "Program Files (x86)" are, by default, write protected.badidea wrote:"Program Files"might bewrite protected.
On all newer WIN-OS's, AFAIK from WIN 8 upwards. (Vers. 8.0, 8.1, 10)
Only access is granted to "trusted installer"-user, by default.
