Re: How can you be proud in future of your country with clinton or trump ?

Post by Dinosaur »

Hi All
If that happens (once only) the Constitution can be modified, resulting in: USA = RUSSIA !
Yes, I can see that is possible.(Theoretically)
But just think how "Unlikely" it is, and even more unlikely for such a drastic change.

The most likely scenario is (as reported on a post election news cast) that DT is a deal maker (remember Real Estate) and he will
propose the most "way out there" plan, and then settle for the best deal he is going to get.
He will build a wall, but it will be more rhetorical then actual. It certainly won't be the full Mexican border.

Large debts don't automatically mean bankrupt - many countries have large debts.

The general rule is "think before submitting your post". If one adheres to that it shouldn't be necessary to delete any post at all. Thus I don't think we need such a feature - I even think it would increase the number of "spam"-posts. Posts which need to be deleted usually have bad content and we don't want such posts anyway in general. If you want to delete a posting after some time it usually means that the content was not good enough from the beginning and you should rather try to improve the content.

Cannot agree more... Look what happens in Poland

Justice system is terrorized and Constitutional Tribunal is neutralized:
government does not bother to publish the sentences.
You don't even need to change the constitution,
you just ignore it... And what? Nothing....
I hope that US are much more robust against populism...

True. It usually is expressed as percentage of GDP as a measure for tax base. Note that only goes for countries that are sufficiently diversified though and actually collect taxes linearly with GDP.

(otherwise the risk is that the GDP collapses due to e.g. over reliance on state income based directly or indirectly on the export of oil, and state incomes collapses when oil price decreases)

In all important science fiction stories are one world government and no currency.
I can't believe it not in 100, 200 and 300 years.

What a fiction.

If you try to fix your car with your emotions you will end up smashing it to pieces with a golf club, baseball bat or whatever.

Majorities in the Senate and House are the result of members failing to satisfy the voters, or of candidates failing to convince the voters that they will satisfy them, if elected. Are we supposed to magically anticipate the final distribution and vote for someone that we don't want in office just to maintain a balance?

Agreed. And medias play a major role in the weakness of today people's mind about themselves (low self-esteem). They are told they know nothing, and when and how they much react to anything.

Anyway, apart from a few simpletons, Americans would know what they voted for at least at some level of cognition. A 'Titanic Success.'
Except the captain and his mates will be first off the ship into the life-rafts.

That will be the truth, but as stated some month ago, it will no be the USA, nor Germany or other countrys..... The new Council will be build upon the, lets say 12 :-). ,. ,biggest companys worldwide.

But then if mankind will grow, hopefully befor self destructing, we will build one Unit and can focus one the really interesting things.....but thats maybe a 500+ year wish.

But at the Moment Trump seems to be the waybuilder for this Concern-regulated world.

Not per se. Older mainstream SF is often utopic, but that is because the public in the forties and fifties wanted to believe anything would become better. DT used that same American Dream sentiment in his campaign even. It is not reality though, just sentiment.

But there are wellknown distopic books too. Brave New World, 1984, Dune e.g. has aristocrats that remain in power due to "family-atomics" (nuclear weapons stash)

In cyberpunk (William Gibson, movies in the style of Matrix, Johnny Mnemonic, Strange Days), a genre from the eighties when Japanese business was in ascent has a wold view based on Japanese conglomorates and associated crime cartels in power.

Probably the SF from now has Mexican drugcartels rising to power, after a drugwar started by an illinformed President going hopelessly wrong :-)
