rdc, the book is looking great. It reads very well, either linearly, or scanning the well laid-out headings/sub-headings for a particular topic. Also, lots of meat in there; I've put many language manuals back on the shelf because the content has been little more than a bare-bones function reference. I think experienced programmers, and not just beginners, will want this reference on thier shelf. Keep at it! I've only ever written a couple of small less than 100 page, application manuals, and it can be grueling at times I know. The effort you have put in to constructing the content shows. Really suberb work there.
I can't believe I haven't posted on this topic before. I thought I did, but upon further inspection it seems I was mistaken.
So if I had posted befor this is what I would have said:
I think this is a great idea. I love the way it is written and I can't wait for it to get finished. I gave a copy of it to my niece because she wanted to learn. She is doing well so far. Thank you for this invaulable resource.
